Mittens in June!
Who would think knitting when it’s 90 degrees outside would be on anyone’s list of things to do, but it sure is on mine! I had 2 small balls of merino superwash yarn left over from a couple different projects that I just kept looking at with no idea what to do with them. I didn’t have the heart to throw them away, but there just wasn’t enough left to make anything out of them individually. I finally got brave, and quite honestly sick and tired of knitting with cheap acrylic and cotton yarns, decided to make some striped mittens for Hannah for this coming winter. Me and double pointed needles haven’t always had the best experiences in the past, so I decided to give magic loop knitting a try….I’m in love and no longer fear knitting in a round! I found a great video on verypink.com on how to knit socks with this method, and I found it so much easier than DPNs. No longer do I have those annoying bars of yarn between needles. After looking on ravelry at several different mitten patterns for children, I decided to give More Mittens by Heather Mees a try. I had just enough total yarn (The purple is Malabrigo, which is my all time favorite yarn!) for this pattern, and it looked like a pretty straightforward mitten pattern. I got started right away. This pattern was very easy to follow and worked up very quickly. In just a couple of days Hannah got a great pair of soft wool mittens for this winter, and I had a great time learning a new technique along with working with my favorite yarn! What a win-win summertime project!
